A condensate tank serves for collection, intermediate storage, and return of hot condensate occuring in →water-steam-cycles, for example pipeline condensate or process condensate.
Depending upon the application, a condensate tank can be designed for atmospheric operation or for pressurized operation. Condensate tanks operating at atmospheric pressure serve for recovery of low pressure condensate, which is then pumped into the →deareator. Pressurized condensate tanks serve for preservering the pressure and temperature of high pressure condensate, which – in case of sufficient quality – can often be pumped directly into the steam boiler.
Condensate tanks are a main component of heat recovery systems, together with systems for flashing and phase separation, vent condensation or direct contact heat recovery, as well as for condensate quality monitoring and →condensate polishing.
Condensate recovery plant, consisting of condensate tank, condensate pumps, internal piping including valves and instrumentation.
